Many a time when we try to install the latest version of windows on our computer that has an older MBR partition style we get an error that windows cannot be installed to the selected disk because the newer version of windows now supports the newer GPT partition style so in this blog, I am going to show you how to convert MBR to GPT disk without data loss on windows you no longer have to use disk part and erase the whole hard disk to convert into the GPT partition table we will be using a tool called MiniTool Partition Wizard this tool converts a disk from the MBR to the GPT partition style without deleting data on the disk before modifying your system configuration first verify if the system is set to MBR or GPT.

Check if the System is set to MBR or GPT

To check disk partition style press the start menu key search disk
management and open the top result on disk management right click on the
the first disk is usually disk 0 and select properties the properties window switch to the volumes tab under the partition style field as shown below

if the field reads grid partition table GPT then the disk drive doesn’t need conversion but if you see the master boot record MBR label you can use the conversion tool to switch.

Convert MBR to GPT

Note: Before we proceed ahead, I strongly recommend backing up all your valuable files and folders for safety.

Once we have downloaded the tool we will see an interface like this

next right click on Disk 1 as shown in this picture It may differ according to your PC but It usually Disk1.

here mine is already in GPT but for you, It will show an option for conversion of MBR to GPT and vice versa. now you will have to click on the conversion option and apply the changes.

Note: If there are more than three partitions then you will need to merge all the
partitions except the first and second partitions if any of these checks fails the conversion will not proceed and an error will be returned also Download the Demo or free trial of the pro version if the free version of this tool didn’t work.

Change Legacy Mode to UEFI in BIOS Firmware

After applying the changes Shutdown the PC and go to the Bios setting you can find the setting of your pc by googling the name of your PC model for me It f2 then go to boot mode change the setting from Legacy to UEFI mode and exit after saving the changes as shown below:

Now start the PC and check if your disk is using a GPT partition or not by opening the start menu key search for disk management similar to as we check previously mentioned in the above steps.
